On October 8, 2024, deputies made a traffic stop along Bray School Road for multiple traffic violations. As a result of the traffic stop and investigation, the driver of the vehicle Jerry Denver Welch, 30 years old, Oakland, was arrested and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Paraphernalia, Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, Negligent Driving, as well as other traffic violations.
Welch was transported to the Garrett County Detention Center where he was later released on his own recognizance after appearing before a District Court Commissioner.
