Sheriff Meyers and the Administration of the Detention Center would like to congratulate Corporal Ayla Fulmer.
Corporal Fulmer was recently recognized at the 47th annual Maryland Correctional Administrator’s Association Conference in Ocean City, Maryland as the 2023 Garrett County Detention Center Correctional Officer of the Year.
Corporal Ayla Fulmer has been employed with the Garrett County Detention Center since May 2017. She was promoted to the rank of Corporal in July of 2019 and worked as a Shift Supervisor in the facility up until January of 2023 when she was assigned to her new position as the Standards and Training Coordinator for the Detention Center. She is also responsible for the coordination of all transports to and from the facility.
Corporal Fulmer is a certified basic instructor and a firearms instructor responsible for ensuring all the Correctional Staff’s annual training requirements are met. She is also responsible for maintaining all records in accordance with the Maryland Commission on Correctional Standards. She has recently become a Dually Authorized Inspector who will assist in audits of other correctional facilities in the western region of the state. Corporal Fulmer’s time management and organizational skills are exemplary. Corporal Fulmer is an inspiration to her co-workers and her motivation and work ethic are examples for everyone. Corporal Fulmer is constantly striving to instill her knowledge in the newer and younger Officers.
Corporal Fulmer is an asset to the current and future operations of the Garrett County Detention Center.
