Office Honors Retired Deputies

Sheriff Meyers and the staff of the Garrett County Sheriff's Office honored the deputies who have retired from the Sheriff's Office. The Garrett County Sheriff's Office was founded in 1872. Over the past 152 years, only 14 deputies have retired from the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office. 

On May 15th, which has been dedicated as National Peace Officer Memorial Day, the Sheriff’s Office recognized the 14 deputies with a small luncheon and a dedication of a display of their photos which has been placed on a wall within the Sheriff’s Office. 

Don Tucker was the first retiree from the Sheriff’s Office, retiring in 2001, 129 years after the office was founded. 

Deputies present included Don Tucker (1974-2001), Larry Gnegy (1979-2007), Paul Pratt (1979-2007), Pat Kelly (1988-2009), Jeff Murphy (1987-2017), Dave McLaughlin (1991-2019), Clark Warnick (1994-2021), Erik Geroski (2000-2021), Rob Corley (1995-2022), Val Drummond (2002-2023), and Tim Sanders (2004-2024). 

Not present were Chuck Nolan (1978-2002), Mike Bittinger (1993-2022), and Brent Sanders (1999-2021).
