As part of Read Across America Week, Crellin Elementary students were encouraged to “dress like a hero” because “reading gives us superpowers.” 4th grader Ryan Roth chose to dress like Captain Robbie Zimmerman from the Sheriff’s Office. Ryan has looked up to Captain Zimmerman since meeting him as a Kindergarten student. Ryan wants to be a police officer or firefighter when he grows up because he has a desire to help others. He sees the example of helping others set by Captain Zimmerman in his professional life but also in his service to Crellin Elementary as the PTO President.
On March 7, 2024, Sheriff Meyers and Captain Zimmerman placed a badge on Ryan, presented him with a patch, and Sheriff Meyers presented Ryan Roth with a certificate making him an Honorary Deputy Sheriff for the day.
