75 Officers Attend Law Enforcement Training Event

The Garrett County Sheriff’s Office hosted a multi-agency/multi-jurisdictional training at Deep Creek Lake, from February 21-23.

Instructors from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center based out of Glynco, Georgia, and Cheltenham, Maryland, taught local and state law enforcement officers a course titled Tactical Medical for First Responders.

This course is designed by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center to define a medical threat assessment, to include a medical plan for a tactical operation. Law enforcement officers learned how to apply techniques to control life-threatening bleeding during care under gunfire in a hot zone.

Additionally, they performed techniques to treat life-threatening and non-life-threatening injuries during tactical field care. Law enforcement officers also learned techniques for lifting, moving, and extricating victims from a hostile environment.

This training was held at the Garrett County Emergency Operations Center, with over 75 officers from law enforcement agencies from the tri-state area attending this training. The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center also provided each law enforcement officer with a full tactical medical pack including two tourniquets.

Lt. Mark Pfaff with the training division of the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office said “this training provided the skills, techniques, and equipment that could save the lives of law enforcement officers and even the citizens they serve”.
