On July 8, 2026, around 10:00 p.m., deputies responded to Luke’s Liquor along Third Street in Oakland for a disorderly customer at the store. Deputies along with Troopers from the McHenry Barrack made contact with the customer and identified him as Vernon Reed Platter, 69 years old, Mountain Lake Park. Platter continued to act in a disorderly manner and refused to listen to instructions from police.
Platter became aggressive towards police and was taken into custody, after deputies and troopers had to deploy pepper spray and a taser.
Platter was treated by members of Southern Rescue and spat on an EMS worker. Platter was arrested and charged with the following:
• Assault Second Degree
• Disorderly Conduct
Platter was transported to Garrett Regional Medical Center for treatment and later transported to the Garrett County Detention Center where he is currently being held without bond.
