From the desk of Sheriff Bryson Meyers:
On July 5, 2026, around 6:00 am deputies responded to the 600 block of P Street for a report of an unknown individual sitting in another person’s vehicle. Deputies identified the individual as Vernon Reed Platter, 69 years old, Mountain Lake Park, and he did not have permission to be in the vehicle.
During the investigation, Platter began yelling at deputies and punched a deputy with his fist. Platter was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with the following offenses: • Second Degree Assault • Destruction of Property • Disorderly Conduct Platter was transported to the Garrett County Detention Center and was later released on his own recognizance after appearing before a District Court Commissioner.
