Maryland Highway Motor Vehicle Collision

From the desk of Sheriff Bryson Meyers: 

On July 27, 2026, at approximately 7:25 p.m., Deputies responded to the 3500 block of Maryland Highway for a motor vehicle collision. 

Upon arrival Deputies located a Ford Escape that had struck a deer in the eastbound lane. Initial investigation showed that the Ford initially struck the deer which caused the deer to be thrown airborne through the windshield of a Subaru Forester that was traveling westbound. 

The Subaru then traveled off the westbound shoulder, over an embankment, and struck a tree head on. 

The driver of the Subaru, Raymond Michael Craft, 32 years old, Center Valley, PA was declared deceased on scene by paramedics. The front seat passenger in the Subaru was airlifted by Health Net to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. 

A juvenile in the Subaru and the driver of the Ford were transported to Garrett Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries. 

The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team. Assistance at the scene was provided by Garrett County Emergency Services, Bittinger EMS, Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department, and Oakland Volunteer Fire Department.
