National Correctional Officers Week

This week, we honor the dedication, professionalism, and resilience of our Correctional Officers.

The role of a Correctional Officer has evolved significantly, demanding a rare balance of vigilance and compassion. Maintaining order while also serving as a mentor, first responder, and stabilizing force is a profound responsibility—one that few truly understand. Correctional Officers do far more than “man a post” or “guard” those in custody. Every day, they navigate a complex landscape of conflict resolution, human emotion, and rehabilitation. As we celebrate their work, we also look ahead.

The future of corrections continues to evolve, shaped by new technologies, enhanced training, and a growing emphasis on rehabilitation and humanity within our facilities. Correctional Officers are at the center of that future. Their leadership, adaptability, and commitment to continuous improvement ensure that we move forward with integrity and purpose.

To all the men and women who wear the badge: thank you for your steadfast service, for the professionalism you bring to every shift, and for the role you play in building safer communities today and in the years to come.
