On May 13, 2026, the Garrett County Narcotics Task Force, with the assistance of the Garrett County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police conducted a traffic stop in Swanton, MD. During the stop, a Garrett County Sheriff's Office K-9 was utilized and conducted a K-9 scan of the vehicle, resulting in positive alert. A subsequent search incident to arrest for distribution of methamphetamine, led to the recovery of 113 grams of methamphetamine and 7 grams of fentanyl. Having a street resale value of $9040.00 and $1400.00 respectively.
As a result of the investigation, the following individual was arrested and charged:
William James Zimmerman, 54, Mountain Lake Park - Distribution Methamphetamine, x2 Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl, CDS Import Into State, x2 Possession Methamphetamine and Possession Fentanyl.
Zimmerman was transported to the Garrett County Detention Center for processing. The Garrett County Narcotics Task Force is a cooperative enforcement effort between the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryland State Police, and the Garrett County State’s Attorney Office.
