On February 18, 2026, around 8:00am deputies responded to El Canelo’s, located at 12680 Garrett Highway for a motor vehicle theft. During the investigation, deputies determined that a dark blue Chevy Traverse with Texas registration was stolen from the parking lot. Deputies were able to obtain an arrest warrant charging Sarah Elizabeth Stromwell, 55 years old, Oakland, with Motor Vehicle Theft.
On February 19, 2026, with the assistance of deputies with the Preston County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle was located at the Microtel in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia. Deputies were able to recover the vehicle and located Stromwell where she was placed under arrest.
Stromwell is currently being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail pending extradition to Maryland.
