The Garrett County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of several threats made by a student at Northern Garrett High School. Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers conducted numerous interviews, assisted by School Staff, and investigated the threats. As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old juvenile was charged with various crimes relating to the threats made at the school. The incident occurred on September 29, 2025, resulting in charges being filed against a 16-year-old juvenile for Threat of Mass Violence as well as other charges relating to the incident. The juvenile has been referred to the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services for disposition.
Sheriff Meyers stated, “I would like to thank the Board of Education and the School Resource Officers for their cooperation in helping to keep the school safe for all of our students and staff. School safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage parents, students, and staff to speak up if they see or hear something concerning. Through cooperation, communication, and community engagement, we can ensure that our schools remain safe spaces where every student can thrive.
Any threat made toward a school, student, or staff member will be taken seriously. Those found to be making or disseminating threats will face investigation and, as appropriate, criminal charges filed under applicable laws.”
