From the desk of Sheriff Bryson Meyers:
During the month of September 2025, Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division conducted an investigation into counterfeit $100.00 bills being used at the Oakland Walmart for purchases. The suspects were using the counterfeit bills to purchase items and then returning the items at another Walmart location for real currency. As a result of the investigation, Detectives identified the suspects as Bryan Pedro Reynoso Idelfonso, 29 years old, New York City, and Pedro Xavier Idelfonso, 32 years old, Bronx, New York. Detectives learned that both individuals had committed this type of fraud and theft along the East Coast, from Maine to North Carolina.
On September 20, 2025, both were arrested in Cleveland, Tennessee, for committing the same type of crimes. Detectives obtained arrest warrants charging both Pedro Idelfonso and Bryan Idelfonso with Possession of Forged/Counterfeit Currency, Theft, and Conspiracy to Commit Theft. Both individuals are currently being held in the Bradley County, Tennessee, Detention Center, where they will be awaiting extradition to Maryland. Sheriff Meyers stated, “I would like to remind local businesses to be cautious of scams and counterfeit bills. I commend the Detectives for their investigation and working with multiple other jurisdictions across the East Coast, bringing this case to a successful closure.”
