Over the past several days, the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of several threats made by students at Southern Garrett High School. Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers conducted numerous interviews, assisted by School Staff, and investigated the threats.
As a result of the investigation, 2 juveniles were charged with various crimes relating to the threats made at school.
The first incident occurred on September 23, 2025, resulting in charges being filed against a 12-year-old juvenile for Threat of Mass Violence, as well as other charges relating to the incident. The juvenile has been referred to the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services for disposition.
The second incident occurred on September 25, 2025, resulting in charges being filed against a 13-year-old juvenile for Threat of Mass Violence, as well as other charges relating to the incident.
The juvenile has been referred to the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services for disposition.
Sheriff Meyers stated that School Resource Officers will continue to investigate any threats and safety issues that occur within the Garrett County Public School System. The safety and well‑being of our children, school staff, and community are among our highest priorities. Any threat made toward a school, student, or staff member will be taken seriously. Those found to be making or disseminating threats will face investigation and, as appropriate, criminal charges filed under applicable laws.
