On April 24, 2025, around 2:00 pm, deputies stopped a vehicle along Maryland Highway near Weber Road for traffic violations. During the course of the traffic stop, a Sheriff’s Office K-9 was utilized, and a K-9 scan was conducted of the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert. A subsequent search of the vehicle and occupants resulted in the recovery of a quantity of Fentanyl and Drug Paraphernalia.
As a result of the search, Detectives with the Narcotics Task Force arrested and charged the driver, Eugene Wayne Shiflett, 60 years old, Mountain Lake Park, with Possession of Fentanyl, and the passenger, Jennie Rebecca Hesson, 47 years old, Oakland, with Possession of Fentanyl and Possession of Paraphernalia. Both Shiflett and Hesson were arrested and transported to the Garrett County Detention Center. After arriving at the Detention Center, Hesson assaulted a correctional officer and was subsequently charged with Assault of a DOC Employee, Obstructing, and Possession of Contraband in a Place of Confinement.
Shiflett and Hesson are both currently being held in the Garrett County Detention Center without bond.
