On August 11, 2026, around 8:00 p.m., deputies responded to the 900 block of White Church Steyer Road for a motor vehicle accident. As a result of the investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Robert William Lay Jr., 34 years old, Greenville, South Carolina, was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and related traffic citations.
Lay was transported to the Garrett County Detention Center where he was later released on his own recognizance after appearing before a District Court Commissioner.
