The Garrett County Department of Public Works - Roads Division has announced a road closure notice for Savage River Road at Bear Pen Run.
Effective Monday, June 8, 2026, Savage River Road will be CLOSED TO ALL THROUGH TRAFFIC at Bear Pen Run while crews complete the replacement of the existing culvert with a new bridge. The closure is expected to remain in effect through Sunday, August 3, 2026.
This closure is necessary to facilitate the safe installation of a new bridge structure at Bear Pen Run. Garrett County appreciates the patience and cooperation of all residents, commuters, and visitors during this important infrastructure improvement project.

NORTHBOUND — Traveling FROM the south TOWARD Grantsville:
1. At the closure, turn RIGHT onto Big Run Road.
2. Follow Big Run Road and turn LEFT onto New Germany Road.
3. Follow New Germany Road north and turn LEFT onto Chestnut Ridge Road.
4. Follow Chestnut Ridge Road to I-68 / Grantsville.
5. Resume travel on your intended route.
SOUTHBOUND — Traveling FROM Grantsville TOWARD the south:
1. From Grantsville / I-68, turn LEFT onto Chestnut Ridge Road.
2. Follow Chestnut Ridge Road and turn RIGHT onto New Germany Road.
3. Follow New Germany Road south and turn RIGHT onto Big Run Road.
4. Follow Big Run Road and turn LEFT onto Savage River Road.
5. Resume travel on your intended route.
Detour signs will be posted at all key intersections throughout the work zone to guide motorists safely through the detour.
