On April 23, 2026, at approximately 3:19 P.M. Garrett County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of Maryland Highway at the intersection of Main Street and Sand Flat Road, Deer Park, Maryland, for a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, deputies located two vehicles, a Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chevrolet Colorado which both collided. The driver of the Jeep, William Earl Greene, 23 of Terra Alta, West Virginia, was flown to Ruby Memorial for treatment for serious injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Edwin Odell Friend Sr., 75 of Swanton, Maryland, was transported to Garrett Regional Medical Center by ambulance for treatment for serious injuries. Jeffrey Vincent Corby, 57 of Oakland, Maryland, an occupant of the Jeep, signed a refusal and was released from the scene. The roadway was shut down for approximately four hours.
This collision is currently being investigated by the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team. Assistance was provided by Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Department of Transportation, Garrett County Roads Division, Deer Park VFD, Southern Garrett Rescue, and Maryland State Police Aviation.
