BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT TONIGHT

A Blizzard Warning is in effect for Garrett County, MD, beginning at 9:00 PM tonight. The most dangerous conditions are expected to occur between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM tomorrow. During this time, heavy snow, strong winds, and near-zero visibility will create life-threatening travel conditions. Wind chills will drop to near or below zero by Thursday evening.

Important Safety Information:

• Stay off the roads: Do not attempt to travel tonight, especially between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM when visibility will be reduced to near zero and snow accumulation may make roads impassable. If you must travel, make sure your vehicle is winter-ready and equipped with emergency supplies.

• Dangerous whiteout conditions: Snow combined with wind gusts up to 55 mph will cause blowing snow and drifting, severely limiting visibility. This will make driving extremely hazardous.

• High winds: Wind gusts as strong as 55 mph will cause snow to drift and create dangerous conditions on roadways, especially in open areas and elevated terrain.

• Stay indoors: For your safety, remain indoors between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM when the worst of the storm will occur. If you must leave your home, exercise extreme caution.

Prepare now: Ensure you have enough supplies, including food, water, and heating resources, in case of power outages.

Please monitor local broadcasts and weather services for any further updates. Your safety is our priority—avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
